Kenya Shimizu has a really classic Japanese style. He expresses Japanese guys and their Samurai-spirits which Western guys may find interesting. His works are exactly what those who are interested in Japan want to see. He used to draw illustrations for gay magazines including G-men, but he recently has started to show his original works, and has put value on more artistic activities.
Kenya is one of the artists who had most enquiries at my ‘Boys Life’ exhibition at Mardi Gras last year. He came to Australia with his partner to experience Mardis Gras and Australian life. His exhibitions in England two years ago had a huge success and his many works were sold out. I expect he will have more responses from overseas in the future. However, he has had few opportunities to show his works and I would say it is generally precious to see his works in person. He showed a few of his past and latest works at the last year’s exhibition, by the way. It seems he has been constantly working. All of his works will be new this time. Enjoy!
